Gândara Fireplace Room

Meals Room Description

The Gândara Fireplace Room is a large rustic room with seating for at least 22 people.

The furniture with custom design in solid natural wood, were handmade by following traditional techniques.

For its grandeur, its majestic extra-rustic 3 m long table, 11 cm thick top and traditionally carved feet stand out – the Greenside Family Table!

It is in this room that we usually serve our guests breakfast and family meals or other events.

The wooden beamed ceiling and its furniture fit the rustic line of the traditional Gândara fireplace, whose large chimney is supported by traditionally cut and cut wooden beams.

It was one of these chimneys, which on Christmas Eve, we were cleaning hard so that the “Baby Jesus” did not get dirty, when he came down to leave a chocolate in our “child little shoe”, at the time when we did not know Santa Claus or socks ..

In addition to being able to enjoy the cozy comfort of the campfire, you can keep the traditions and cook  on “firewood” in a pan or hanging pan, the traditional firecrackers and also cure the traditional Gândara sausages:
– Chorizos, sausages, sirloin and even streaky (bacon).

On the side of Borralho, is hidden the “mouth of the wood oven” traditional of Gândara, where the corn bread is cooked …
And the “baixada” (a thinny just made corn bread), that along with the baked potato, accompany the traditional cod fish “À lagareiro” (with cold-pressed first-come olive oil, coming directly from the producer).

It is also in this oven, that you can make the typical “sardines on the tile” so appreciated by Gândara people and not only …

Traditionally, in each home, corn bread was cooked once a week and eaten from it all week.

Nowadays, we make this “typical Gândara cuisine”, only on special days …
